I have a Galaxy DX99V that squeels every time I try to talk, I have exchanged mics and have made a visual inspection ov curcitry, I would like to know if there is an quick check for this problem. Every were I have looked on line show a mod for power not a repair for this problem. I have not put this on test equipment as I have not set my shop back up since I got married 12 years ago as I have moved around alot, so most of this needs to be updated.
I just want to talk on my radio.

Chances are your 99v has had the limiter clipped and other mods to make it overmodulate, which aint good if you care any at all of the fidelity of your signal. My galaxy had something done with it, some day I plan to bring the radio back to factory specs but for now I cant go over 1/3 way up or it swings over 50 watts and sounds distorted.......and also squeals.

That is likely your problem, the talkback feature causes the speaker to feedback into the mic, causing the squeal. On my 99 there was no switch to turn it off, just a simple mod involving soldering resistors to lessen or eliminate talkback.

Just try turning down the mic gain, to like 1/4 the way up and holding the mic further away, then up the mic gain to find out how much it can be before it feeds back.

That's the problem I had with my 99V when I first got it. One of the following links will match the model you have (different mods listed due to two changes in the circuit boards mfg - BTW). I hooked up a mini switch on the back of the radio and put it in one of the existing holes in the back - no drilling this way. I keep the talk back circuit switched off all of the time - BTW. I don't use echo and I talk SSB anyway. But if I want use use echo (like, never), I just flip the switch and the talk back can be used to adjust the echo.

DUDE...which CB?? Those are just brand names and two out of the four are out of the CB business!!

LOL

Another forum noob. A one post wonder.

Yea I wondered what was up with Sears and Motorola on a list of cb radio's. The Galaxy 99 is not a cb either, it's an Export radio.

Thank you for all the help, it is nice to know that there is still those that will help.

I have put my talk back speaker under the seat on passenger side, have turned talk back off, and mic gain down to almost nil, yet it still squeals when I talk, and others are saying that they get the squeal on their end. Will try the resistor mod see if that helps.

Once again thank you all sooooo much.

As for the radio poll: the mods for the Sears and some Moto's to take them above channel 40 and bellow channel 1 are quick, easy and cheap. As for the strength of the cobra main board it becomes the best radio for 'bouncing' around in the woods
