Hello i purchased a GE 3-5871A CB Transceiver Base Station at a yard sale i have several questions on this bad boy. It came with some kind of toggle switch on the side cover and also when i get to the higher channels lets say channel 30 my audio gets lower any help would be appreciated thanks.

I use to have this same radio about a year ago and if I remember correctly the most significant info I could find on this radio was it absolutely could not be modified for frequency expansion

It can be modified, just may not be worth the trouble.

The loop crystal is 11.750 MHz, so going up or down by 450 kHz will get you a new band. Also, pin 14 on the chip is a divider preset. Stock it looks like it's set high, which is N+147. Setting it low would be N+102, which I think will give you 40 below the FCC channels assuming the VCO will do it.

I don't know if the chip has internal ROM or not so I can't say if attacking the programming pins directly would work.

No idea how any of this ties into the audio problem described above.

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
