I'm very excited to be catching the bug after 30 years off the air. Slowly starting to unpack all my nicely packed radios amps meters ext.ext.ext. 5 sonars 2 bownigs ef Johnson ranger and its brother Thunderbolt. Used to use it with my Collins receiver. I do not own one piece of transitorized only equitment with the exception of my meters. I Will b asking 4 lots of help. For I have forgotten most all I knew about what I learned from 25 years of cb lifestyle. And as a child to a young man it was definitely a lifestyle. Filled with wonderful memorys and many friends made and lost. I Will takeb my time setting up the one station I'm happy with and should b ready 4 December. Theres somthing about the warm cozey glow on a snowy winters night. Some of u know that feeling. I will need lots of help to get going and this seems like the place. Many two-way intelligent people. Thank you. Your fellow cber Stellasarat

Welcome back, but be prepared for a bit of a shock- things aren't like they used to be OTA, not by a long shot.

Always good to have another vintage-radio geek around!

Real radios glow in the dark!!

:thumbup1:Welcome to the forum, It's not the same from the 60's/70's, but it's still fun and they are some really good people here. I sure wish I had kept my equipement/Tram Titan11,Contex 500, Shakespear Big stick,Hy-Gain 3 element @45 angle, but life changes for all of us for different reasons. I can't believe the price of equipement today, especially a good rotor. I recall mine was a Rhon silent with a really nice desk unit, less than 75.00 then. Enough about me, good day to you and yours, 3's to ya and jump in anytime.

Awesome story, i was off the air for 10 yrs and features on radios have improved alot. After a couple months i bet you will want a newer mobile or base that puts out some power and lights up like a Xmas tree, lol. I did!

Nice story and welcome back to the fold. I was active in radio between 11 meters and ham from '73 to 2000. I went silent from 2000 to about mid 2010 when the bug bit again. I have been active ever since.

OMG! gone 4 30 yrars. HELP!

Someone r!eplyer I'd b shellshocked. You wrer not kidding! I can't believe not being able to buy an 11 meter antenna. I want to buy it put it up and propagate. WTF! Tunning it? I want an 11 meter antenna! From all the help I've gotten from all u grate people who r members of this site I now understand it's a new world. If someone has a NOS 27 kHz antenna for sale please let me know. So for now I purchased a dipole off ogbay. I haven't received it yet. By the way thanks to all the members who have been answering my DIPOLE HELP THREAD. I really thought is b on the air by December but I'm doubtful at this point. Tested a couplenof my radios using an old RS magnetic mount n all is working well. Can't test any amps but sure all is fine. I just want an antenna for channel 1-40. THAT'S IT! If anyone knows of an antenna for just this no tunning no vs. Am I dreaming? I think I'm just stuck in 1975. Thanks to all

Tuning an antenna is really quite simple. Most CB antennas come pre-tuned for the band and only require minor adjustment if they need it at all. For example: If you were to order an IMAX 2000 (available for $100 or less, shipped) it would come pre-tuned for the CB band and would only need adjusting if you wanted to work higher or lower than the 27 MHz band.

All that is meant by tuning is setting it for lowest SWR which is a part of any good antenna installation anyway.

That 27 KHz antenna is going to be really L-O-N-G. And it'll still require "tunning", whatever that is.

welcome back to cb. a starduster antenna is a good choice . just measure out everything
and swr will be there ..then some. being you was around in the 70s im sure you remember
this one. its now made by a company called sirio. heres a site that has that one
plus many more.. dnjradio.com . most antennas today will cover more than just 40 channels
especially the sirios.

i think i ment MHZ?

Thanks for the info. I'm gonna go with an 11 meter dipole. I already bought it and should b in my mailbox by Tuesday.. if it dosnt work out for me ill try the A/99 next. Its a bit shorter than the 2000 u suggested. Thanks for all your time and advice. PS I think I ment 27 mhz

I don't know exactly what it is but more people are starting to return or new people such as myself are just getting started. A few friends have just gotten in it. For most of us it's the older equipment just after the 23 to 40 channel changeover.
