good mic to run with Kenwood TS 440??

i wired my astatic d104 knight eagle for it and initial reports on AM is "crap." hehe i know this is a good radio just need help finding a good mic combo...



this is my first rig like this....1 more question is the speech processor supposed to be ran on AM? does it sound like crap on AM?
