Looks good! I use that color for my CRE-8900. I might get a 980 and use that for a base instead of my 959 or use the 8900 for a base and use the 980 in my mobile

Is amber an option for the display?

I bought a 980ssb and the box has a picture of it with an amber display on front and the picture on the website was also amber but it doesn't appear to be an option when scrolling through the color choices in the menu.

Seems strange to me to show it on the box with a color it can't actually display.

One reason I stopped using CB at home 20 years ago was the interference it created.

Haven't had any problems with the 980ssb coming through speakers in the slightest. Dusted off an old radio shack CB that's completely stock and tried it out and it came right through the computer speakers but with the 980 there is nothing at all. Antenna I'm using is a wire 1/4 wave in the attic, a worst case for causing RFI to household appliances.

Wish I had this when I was kid. I'm sure I'm not the only one who got in trouble for coming through the phones, TV, and who knows what else.

Uniden did a good job making a clean transmitter.

Still haven't found Amber, there is a sort of yellow color. Put it on radioactive green :D

Got my 980 in the mobile with a DX500V and roof mount Wilson 5000. The 980 Carrier is set @1/2w, and 10-12Pep. Swr is 1.3 on all 40's. To get the DX500V to have a carrier of 100W, the 980 was tuned down to 1/2W and the 10-12W pep only pushes about 350W out of it. NOT BAD, BUT NOT ENOUGH!
Tried a TS MOD-V to drive the 500, but the 10-12W pep only produced the same 10-15W out of the mod-v, which still got 350Wpep with the mod-v keying the 500V at 100W, even tried a 125W carrier but still 350 out of the 500V.
LOVE THE RADIO, HATE THE BEEP. Just need an amp (????) for the 980 to drive the DX500V OR just replace the 500. Any suggestions?

To go from 350 up to 500 won't be a big difference. You probably won't have to worry about heat or a short life span due to driving the crap out of it. I might just run it like it is. If you really want to get more power with the 980 maybe a 2x4 amp or 1x4 amp.....then you could just mail me the 500v....got plenty of rigs here that'll make it sing.. LOL

I believe its rt206. Bottom cover off, front of radio facing yourself, right hand side near the back. Should be printed in the board.
