Hi. I posted here a while back, but thought I would let everyone know that I'm now studying for my 'Technician' liscense. No, I didnt get a Novice, my book said I could get Technichian, then later learn the CW at 5 words per minute for Technician Plus. BTW, if there are any HAMS in the West TN area, let me know. I have a few questions. Hope to see you on the air soon!

Also- My book is from 1997, so could someone recceomend a more recent version? Also, could someone tell me where I might find the question pool for a Technician liscense?

Thanks.

For the new books, try Radio Shack or www.arrl.org

68 Mag,

Get a copy of the ARRL`s TECH Q&A second eddition. If you just want to learn enough to pass the test and do it quickly, try this. First thing, when you get the book go through it and highlight all the right answers. Then when you study, read the question and just the "right answer only". DON`T WAST YOUR TIME READING THE OTHER THREE WRONG ANSWERS. Then on the day of the test when you read the question you`ll have no trouble finding the right answer because you never learned the wrong answers.

Just FYI- Tech+ licenses are no longer being issued. Since restructuring only Tech, General, and Extra are being issued. You can get a Tech with code credit, but the credit is only good for 365 days unless you pass the General exam (which is just as easy as the Tech if you ask me). Might as well take it and see how you do, it doesn't cost you any more.

Good luck

Wait, my book says the liscenses are free. What's the CW requirement for General?

The license it self is free, but, you have to pay to take the test. This is usually $7.00 - $10.00 . The CW rate is only 5 word per minute and all you have to do is write it down and answer a few questions about what was sent.

At my local club the examination fee is $10.00. Makes no difference what test or combination of test you take.

The fee is just to compensate the VE's for their time and expenses. All fee's will be a little different depending on where you live, but that one fee will be for whichever tests you want to take.

68 Mag,

You can take practice tests for all classes of license on-line at:

www.qrz.com

I found these very usefull because they use the same questions that are used on the exams!!

Good Luck,

Joe
