Hooking up automotive guage volt amp

I want to hook up automotive analog gauges "volt" & "amp" to my 12v 53amp power supply and was wondering how should they be wired? I am not a tech so it has to be in layman's language. Thanks...Jeff :headbang

The Volt gauge goes across the line making sure to observe the polarity markings.

The Amp gauge would go in line with the positive wire. (If the amp gauge can not carry the load, it will emit magic smoke and cease to work)

I would use the Volt gauge and abandon the Amp gauge idea if it were me.

Just use a voltage divider for the current.

So would I run the positive wire from the supply to the positive lead to the volt meter and then to the positive lead to the amp gauge and then to my amp and same for the ground? I don't hear of any talk of a shunt for the amp meter on automotive analog guages.
