My understanding is that you would need a blocking capacitor for the audio line (has voltage to power the microphone) handheld or base

Yep. It would help to know which radio your wiring for. The mics manual is posted all over the internet. You should be good to go.

its a icom 718 sorry about that it may be 8 pin. i have not opened the box yet

The Shure manual shows the wiring out on the mic. Just match it up with the wiring diagram in the 718 manual. Obviously you won't use all 8 pins.

the shure is a "low gain" mic and may (or may not) sound "mushy" on the 718.

a Heil ICM ($$$$) will sound GREAT!, jus sayin.

A mod must be done to radio or mic due to ICOM placing 8vdc on pin one(Audio) to power the're mics...These mics do not require mods

According to the ICOM manual I have, +8 volts is on pin 2, and mic audio is on pin 1.

Your most likely correct 399...ICOM uses many configurations...sometimes Pin 1 or 2...sometimes more than one pin has voltage......
Here's a good link to identify many specific models...
Never used the 718...So my bad for not checking.
I have known op's that have caused damage to their ICOM rigs and/or mics trying to make hook-ups...
