How to free up tuning slugs in tube radio?

I'm doing a little restoration work on a couple of old tube CB radios and need to perform an alignment. Does anyone know of a way to dissolve the factory substance that was used to lock the tuning slugs into position? Hoping there is something available that will remove it without damaging anything else.

If it's wax use your soldering iron. After adjustment I ball up the wax and remelt to make it look factory.
