I was looking for an antenna for HF that would work well for me and I came across this one. It seems to have great reviews on Eham. Has anyone here used this ?

I have used a 5-BTV for many years and it works very well. BW on 40 & 80 is somewhat limited and you will need a good ground radial system, if your soil is not highly conductive.

I used the 5BTV also and it worked well, now I didnt use radials at first, I just mounted the antenna on the ground using a 8 foot ground rod. NOT THE BEST FOR SURE!

Ground radials are easy

234/ frequency = 1 radial wire.

example, lets say for 75 meter,

234 / 3.875mhz = 60.38 ft,,,, just go 60 foot 3 inches.

If you can cut atleast 2 radials for each frequency and set them like bicycle spokes you will be fine

5BTV =
28.500 mhz = 8.2 foot
21.350 mhz = 10.96 foot
14.300 mhz = 16.36 foot
7.258 mhz = 32.240 foot
3.857 mhz = 60.38 foot

round those figures up, you will be fine.

If you mount above ground, do the radials still go at ground level? Or can they be contructed as true radials out of tube aluminum not wires, mounted on a hub attached to the mast or tower?

10m won't be a problem but 40 and 80m might.

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
