I have 706 and have problems turning down ALC.. what am I doing wrong? I have followed all the instructions I THINK>> lol PLEASE HELP.

Icom 706 ALC.. having problems turning it DOWN..

you still trying to drive that cb amp with the 706?:headbang
due to the design of the 706 ALC circuitry Even when the IC-706 is adjusted to the 40W or so needed to drive a high gain amp to 1500W of output, a several millisecond 100+ watt RF pulse is output at initial key down. This is the designfo the IC-706 ALC circuitry. It prevents using high gain, low drive amplifiers with the IC-706 in all modes except SSB, and occasionally faults on initial voice peaks in this mode. Other unprotected high-gain amplifiers may not shut down, but might suffer severely reduced tube life from the overdrive. Amplifiers which require 100W to drive (eg. 2 X 3-500) are most likely to survive the key up power spike.
