Icom IC-7300 HF Transceiver Review

funny thing is my kenwood does 100 watts on ssb same with the 450d using the same meter. so why the low output on ssb with the icom. i dont care about am as i never use am

I do understand your frustration about the low output power of the 7300 on SSB ......
I have posted the two "fixes" that will give you the SSB power output increase. They are tried and proven "fixes".......
The Heil ICM microphone WILL wake up the 7300 ......
The power adjustments in the "technician service mode" WILL increase the SSB power output.
As I posted earlier, my 7300 was the same way as yours, maximum of about 40~45 watts SSB output power.
My 7300 will now "swing" up to 130 watts SSB output power.
These are easy to do and you will be very pleased with your I-7300 .....

yes im going to do the fix.
just a shame you pay 1.500 bucks and you have to modify it right out of the box. soon as i read the service manual a few times so i dont brick the radio
thanks for everyone's help.

Since it showed the same with a CW tone this probably isn't relevant, but what are your mic settings? The ALC should be around 60-75% with compression off.

i was running the mic gain at 50% no compresson
thanks

Well, I do understand what you are saying .......
But I disagree that you are having to "modify" the 7300 .....
The only thing you are doing in service mode is adjusting the power output, no mods .....
Some of these 7300's are doing up to 90 plus watts on SSB right out of the box.
The Heil ICM microphone will drive the 7300 that way. It is all in the modulation output.
These 7300's are very tame on the modulation, with a little help, they will really put out the power.
Try the Heil ICM microphone. It is inexpensive, and very good for this radio.
And you do not have to read the service manual for this.

If you are using the supplied hand mic, turn the mic gain up to 65% or more, and turn your compression up to about 3 .....
See what this does for your ALC level and compression level on your meters.
And see what it does on the power output on SSB .......

well i ordered the e Heil ICM microphone. hope your right
cost me almost 200 dollars for the mic the stand and the cable for the mic. and the foot switch they were out of stock. they said they would have more in 2 weeks

I hope you did not order a microphone cable. You do not need an additional mic cable.
The Heil ICM microphone has an attached/built in, permanent cable with an 8 pin connector that will only fit an Icom radio.
I personally use the Heil hand key switch that plugs in to the mic cable, but a foot switch works just as well.
I also use the VOX function on the radio quite often when my hands are busy while talking on the radio. That is nice.

no the cable comes with it. i knew that.
the heil mic came as a package deal. mic. stand and cord and foot switch
thanks
and i got my icom 7300 200 dollar rebate in today. so that will pay for the microphone.
just have to wait 2 weeks for them to be back in stock. seeing i already paid for it.

I have a Heil pr40 but my friends all tell me the stock mic sounds best and loudest. The stock mic really drives my rig.

Good luck jon666

I have heard several 7300's on the air with the stock mic and the sound great,, I have a 7300 mic I use on my 7200 and 7410 and they have plenty of audio punch to run the radios at full power out with the mic gain below 50%

how do you think it compares to a IC-7410 in the recieve department in terms of dynamic range etc..

it seems the IC-7410 is still a better radio in terms of receive. Does it beat the IC-7200 as a receiver?

i find that hard to believe a stock mic sounds better then a heil mic.
i have ran heil mics all my life. and they always sound better than stock mic

Good day, I have an Icom IC910H radio. I want to program a memory with split frequency tone on TX only and NO tone on RX,. Is this possible to do from the face of the radio? I don't have the interface to connect to a computer.
