It's called a Striker. I guess because they break mounts(and mirrors) off and strike the ground.

For perspective,all but the blue one are Predator 10K size.
 
Haha, I've seen quite a few of the smaller ones on trucks in OK and KS, most have some sort of tether on them. I guess to catch them when they fall off.
 
I got a closer look at one with a tether. There's a 5/16 to 3/8 inch hole in the lower shaft that the tether is threaded through, the tether material is plastic coated metal clothesline LMAO
 
I understand it's an old thread but just wanted an opinion cause it's true, I have seen a lot of truckers with them.
