I had this intermittant problem of my receiver not working. The meter showed a signal there, but no audio. I could turn it off then back on and it would work for a while. I looked around for help and found that this problem was not uncommon for this radio.

Simple fix.

Remove the bottom cover (with the front facing away from you). In the top right-hand corner there is a audio IC with 5 legs sticking out. I re-soldered all 5 legs and that fixed it.. Simple..

And just think, I was about to send the radio in for repair at $84/hr..

Thanks to WB7DJ

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
