Far as I know they never really went completely away. When RCA was being broken up in the 80s, their land-mobile radio division was spun off and renamed "Tactec", the name of their new (at the time) business-radio product line. They kept doing business in Canada, as the market for analog police/fire/industrial 2-way FM radios declined year by year. Don't know what year Tactec went away in the US.
The web site shows modern-day police/fire/industrial and marine 2-way gear using current-day digital protocols.
The RCA-brand CB radios came from a different business unit altogether, the consumer division that sold TVs and stereos. That got sold to the french company Thompson 35 years ago.
Smacks of a Canadian Invasion, I'd say.
Kinda reminds me of Eric Lewis going back to the name Palomar after all these years.
