Is the case needed?

I was wondering, is it needed to have the metal box or case on a transmitter, a tube transmitter to be exact? I see this alot in photos of older transmitters with only a chassis and front panel (ham wise).

My question is arent these needed to sheild from rf exposer?

The case definitely provides shielding from RF not only to the operator but it keeps RFI down as RF is not radiating from the unit but rather is fed to the antenna as it should be. Most likely a lot of the older gear you see with just a front panel and chassis was meant to be installed in a large equipment rack which provided the shielding.

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
