... WTF it's off the charts. All day and night I'm getting 9+DB of mostly noise. Crank the RF gain up full and I"m STILL hearing the mouth of the south #45 blasting through. You know it's bad when you need 400 watts to talk to the truck in front of you!
 

If you're getting +9dB of noise then something is wrong. I'm getting S0-S1.

Also when you've got a lot of noise the last thing you want to be doing is cranking the RF gain up. All that does is make the signal to noise ratio worse. Crank it down, turn up the volume.
 
My bad. I meant down as in counter-clockwise.

It does quiet down a bit at night but picks up again as soon as the sun comes up.
