Why not put the exact frequency in there (say 27.205 MHz for Channel 20)?

The length looks correct for 11 meters. Remember frequency and wavelength are inversely proportional: the higher the frequency the shorter the wavelength (and therefore the shorter the antenna for a given type).
 
Thanks a lot for those links, but now im more interested in building something a little smaller like a 1/4 wave ground plane but im looking for more detailed plans- and would steel conduit work?
