a buddy of mine was wanting to put some antennas on his pickup but was talking about different mounts and having wrenches so as change some antenna to another i suggested a screw driver or multi band hustler but he said that wasnt what he wanted because of cost and he was afraid of thieves and road damage..... well any way the thing is here is that i have found out over the years several antennas that arent advertised as dual band but work fine so i have decided to put a small list here....

hustler cgt 144 mobile 2 meter antenna,,, it will work on 10 meters too
most 5/8 bottom load 2 meter antennas will do nicely on 6 meters
antenna specialist m400 the starduster will work on 2 meters
dual band 40-80 meter dipole will load up on 2 meters but is lossy but sometimes will amaze you when skip conditions are up
19 inch 2 meter magnet mount whip, not all but some will do very good on 440
just some old rememberances 73s midnight special

Define "work fine". Most of what you mentioned may show a low SWR but tbat does not mean a lot. True that a base loaded 5/8 2m antenna will work on 6m. Been there and done that. Worked quite well. The 1/4 wave 2m is a 3/4 wave on 70cm and will work but has a lot of radiation going nearly straight up. Not sure what kind of "skip" you are working on 2m with a 40/80m dipole.

I have swept my various wire antennas over the years and many have shown several points with a low SWR however the performance was somewhat less than lack-luster.

not wanting to argue or prove nothing just had some ideas about antennas,,, as for the skip did a station in penn. from here in florida on my 40-80 meter dipole with my icom 290 ssb pretty sure it was ducting propogation... when on a road trip during the 2oo1 field day i used a mfj 9406 barefoot into a radio shack 2 meter 5/8 wave antenna going down a oklahoma highway and was making contacts into colorado and new mexico and the cgt 144 i had on a pontiac i used to own and used it 2 meters locally but when conditions got right would hook my hr 2600 up and do about whoever i could hear,,,
