what do you all think of the k30 antenna.

You'll end up drilling "the hole" for a roof mount Wilson, so just get it over with

Honestly? Um, I think that there are MUCH better antennas than that one. I have a K40 and don't use it. I use a Wilson 1000 or a Sirio Z-180. If you got the K30 for free, that is nice. But you may well be disappointed in its performance if you ever have the chance to use a better antenna like the ones I already mentioned. Even the K40 was completely blown away by the performance of the Wilson 1000 - no contest - IMO...

Your SWR leads me to believe, there was something wrong with your antenna, or your setup.

Mine is about 1:1.5 on the edges, 1:1.1 in the middle.

I only had to trim about 1/2" from the whip.

But still, it's a massively coil loaded antenna.

Don't expect much transmit range or efficiency. I get about 5 miles mobile-to-mobile with mine on 4w.

I get about 15 miles mobile-to-base on 4w.
