Hi all,

just finished watching this video on youtube, and found his ideas interesting.
I was hoping that those of you who have done this type of work professionally might be able to tell me if this is how you handle lightning protection, or why not.

it would seem to me that if this works, then we are all spending way too much time pounding ground rods all over the place.
hoping to learn something new here.

They do work but you still need a decent ground system and he even says that at 3:40 into the video. I have heard from a few in the business that their incidences of lightning strikes were DRASTICALLY reduced after they installed them. Nothing will guarantee 100% that you will not get hit even with these and when you do get hit you NEED that ground.

thanks for the reply CK.

I did notice that there is still a need for ground rods, and that seemed obvious enough, but i wonder if using those little spiky things might allow us to just pound one or two in the ground and have them constantly dissipating the charge rather than needing to drive 20 4x8 sheets of steel plate 40 feet under the ground in order to have a sufficient enough ground to dissipate a strike here in the desert.

Im not even sure if i was exaggerating there even though i meant to LOL.

and where should we be putting those spiky things?
do they need to be the highest thing?

do they need to be proximate to the antenna itself or can they be anywhere on the roof?

can i just stick one on top of my 5/8 wave aluminum antenna that is DC grounded?

i realize i need to find these answers myself, but if i am about to go down a new rabbit hole then im going to need directions.
