I just was reading attenuation charts and noticed low loss RG58 from Times Microwave (LMR-200.) It has the attenuation of standard grade RG8X (about 1.7db/100ft @27MHz) but way higher power handling (1.08KW/100ft.) I am considering using it for a mobile install and Times Microwave's site claims 1.5KW Ave power handling for an 18ft run. With performance like this, and I found a place selling it for $0.49/ft why don't I hear about more people using it?

I said "what the heck" and bought 35' of LMR200 to give a try. My only concern is that the solid center conductor may not be flexible enough for a mobile install. But it is a pretty light cable so it may do just fine.

I just recently purchased 50' of LMR-400 and was wondering why isn't anyone talking about this also.

They do. It is one of the more common cables for VHF and UHF installs. It is a bit overkill at HF unless you have a pretty long run. I have a 50' roll of LMR-400 UF for when I finally get off my lazy butt and take my exam so I can get my 2 Meter base set up.

i like lmr cable. im not sure about the 200 series . but the 400 series does have
flexable cable. its abb. to uf . is ultra flex. some say its overkill .i say dont skimp
on coax or antenna.

I have some LMR 400UF, but I am saving it for when I get my 50' tower up. It will feed my 2 Meter 5/8 ground plane.

The LMR 200 worked very well for my mobile install. I am running a TNT 600HD with AM peaks about 400W and 550W on SSB. So I am well within the power handling. And with about 20' of run, the attenuation is almost none. I do plan an upgrade when I get a bigger amp. I would love to get a Texas Star 1600. When that happens, I will upgrade my coax to LMR 240UF.
