I am looking to buy a new HF rig in the fall.Yes I know it's early but I want to look into things carefully before I lay out that kind of cash for a new rig.Space is an issue as the rig will be mobile almost all the time. For that reason I am leaning towards some of the remote mountable radios like the Icom 706MK2G or the Yaesu FT-100D.I do however like the looks of the Yaesu FT-897 however it is not remote mountable.I am not in any position to buy until the fall but am looking at any opinions people may have that have used these radios. Are the menu systems easy to use? What options should one get versus what comes standard in the radios?Better filtering is always a consideration. How good are the receivers in them with regards to sensitivity and intermod problems on the VHF and UHF bands? I have had very good luck with my Icom 735 I purchased new in 1986 and like the IC-2000 2m rig but just have not had any experiance with Yaesu. Thanks for any input.

Pretty much the same radio as far as "guts" but mobile. The FT-100D also looks nice but I'm not sure if it's $100 nicer than the 857.Just like the difference between the 706 they all have there good points and bad ya just gotta decide which one. I wish Kenwood would come out with something like this besides the 2000,But then it would be even harder to decide on one.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/wink.gif ALT=";)"> If there is a local ham shop it would be worth getting a hands on feel of them if not you can check HERE for a hamfest near by.
