I figure I should mention this. A while back I had a 1994 Subaru Forester, the one that still looked boxy. It was a though decision, but one of the better ones related to CB that I had made over the years. Sparky talked me into this approach. Sparky sent me the genuine, "Skythumper" ball mount, this was probably 2009. Keep in mind I enjoyed the Skythumper brand name, however I should mention that most of the products were delete Pro-Comm and type on Skythumper. I installed a chromed ball mount at the driver rear fender in front of the tail light wrap around so I could access the connector in the same area as the tail light wiring. I had a few antennas that I switched off and on with a heavy quick disconnect. It could run the 102" whip and spring without issues. I mostly a 6.5 foot Francis on it. I had a shorter Skip Shooter tuned for it also. Once I had made the decision that I was keeping the vehicle til catastrophic failure so a hole in the body panel was a non-issue, plus Breedlove made nice aluminum covers for the ball mount holes if needed. I liked the sound of the receive with the big Francis 6.5 footer, it would have some low static. with the ball mount you can just remove what ever antenna you want to run before you enter a garage. The tuning will not be as easy as a quality mag mount in the center roof position, however it can run the big boys top loads, or the big steel.
