was looking at the maco vs. imax thread and it brought back a question i had bouncing around in my head (yes , it was probally lonely ;) ) . is the maco really a 5/8 wl antenna ??

from what i understand (could be a problem right there , lol ) @ 27MHz the wavelength is about 36 feet . that changes depending on the diameter of the radiating element , but typically only a few inches between wire and larger tubing . most of the old school classic 5/8 wl antenna were 22 - 22 1/2 feet tall , which is about where the imax radiators length is minus 2 feet of coax and the matching network in the bottom . the maco at 19 1/2 to 20 feet is much closer to what would typically be considered a 1/2 wave @ 18 feet .

is the maco really more of or even actually a .54 or .55 wavelength antenna ?
whats your thoughts ????

I have no idea why this one doesn't abide by the math you suggest. It has been suggested that these 5/8 wave radiators are not resonant, so the length depends on the type of matching used.

Being specific, from what point at the bottom of the antenna did you measure the length to the tip?

Don't give up BM, someone will probably come along soon and tell us that they added a couple of feet to their V58 and it showed a 3-4 sunits improved signal with a 4.5 mhz bandwidth, with a flat match from one end to the other.

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
