Magnum 257 Swing mod?

I have a older Magnum 257 (the one without external adjustable RF power). The radio will do about 15 watts AM with the carrier turned all the way up. When I lower the carrier, the swing goes away too. Is there a mod to lower the carrier and still get good forward swing without turning it into a splatter box?
