MAGNUM INTERNATIONAL NEW 40 METER RIG!!

No, I'm not a necrophile! But I did want to comment on this rig.
First, the rig was taken off the market years ago, or never saw the light of day. It was not so much intended for the typical 40M operator, as it was really intended for the 41M "Echo-Charlie" operators.

The Echo-Charlie ops are HF Freebanders operating in the 3350 to 3500 kHz, 6530 to 6800 Khz, 13900 to 14000 Khz, 18000 to18050 Khz, 20900 to 20980 Khz and 24700 to 24800 Khz bands. These are all disused or sparsely used Aeronautical frequencies, taken over by... HF freebanders.

I can only assume that back then, Magnum figured it had a market for 6530 to 6800 Khz "Echo-Charlie" operators, so they test marketed this radio. In case you're wondering, the radio looked like this 10M radio here. Just substitute 7.000 instead of 29.699. It ran about 50W PEP.

So does anyone have a working link to the actual radio or a seller yet?
Thanks!
Doesn't exist.

It was only an announcement in the Magnum website to gauge interest, back around 2002 or so. Never came to market. Doesn't exist now, and likely never will.

What with the plethora of cheap HF radios today, it's not worth it.

Oh good grief, I should have looked at the date on the opening post. Thanks & sorry

There was a 40m (45m) version released under the jopix brand, was called the delos.Apparently covers 6-9 mhz when modified.there was a thread about it on transmision 1 in the uk, but even on that not many people had heard of it. as far as i know i've only ever seen jopix radios on sale in Spain here in europe (possibly also marketed in spanish speaking south american countries too).

Very interesting! I received an Optima radio from YeticomNZ, direct from the [JOPIX] factory. It came in a "plain" cardboard box, but when I examined the box, it was an unused JOPIX Itaca box, turned inside out. OK - I have seen that before. But all the writing and inscriptions were in Spanish! So I suspect you're right - JOPIX has a market in Spanish speaking countries.

I was interested as it seemed it was going to be a 50watt all mode HF rig aimed at the freebander market. Was interested to see how high they would jack up the price for the silly CBer's. 'Cause any sane person would just get a used 100W KenYaeCom for less money and probably get lots more radio to boot.

I wouldn't call these Aero bands disused or sparsley used, if you tune across them day or night you will most likely hear some traffic.

EC seems to be growing in Europe but for the most part the regular EC bandshave been rather quiet since 9/11.

[...] what is DOUBLE side band?
DSB is the product produced by a balanced modulator in an SSB radio. The output of the B.M. goes to filters which produce either an LSB, or a USB signal.
Things must have changed since I've been active on EC, back then everything was LSB.
That was in an effort to avoid commercial traffic by using the wrong sideband. That worked until the hapless EC operator encroached on the commercial's frequency.

so is the echo charlie not the place to talk? "FREE BANDING" and where would you get a 80m antenna?
