its years since i owned mine, the coil is self supporting,
i don't remember for sure what the phasing insulator was made of, maybe fiberglass tube,
im pretty sure what looks like holes are rivets holding the insulator in place
if you want the antenna to be sturdy in bad weather with an i-10k style upper 5/8 you want something better than stock
