Marine radio antenna

I have a Midland Nautico 3 (Midland Radio - Midland Radio | Communication Solutions For Your World)

and I want to connect it to my antenna (4ft vhf with a pl-259 connector)

I unfortunately don't have my radio with me at this time (its in Florida) and I was wondering if I should buy a new connector that will fit my handheld radio (the pl-259 doesn't look like it will fit)

Would that longer antenna work 'better' than the supplied 'rubber-duck'? Yes, it would, if done correctly. That would mean mounting that longer antenna someplace other than the HT, using the applicable connectors/converters. If just put on that HT it's gonna break something, the HT's case/antenna mount probably. Not to mention that it would not be very convenient or 'portable'.
If that wasn't what you meant, then I've just misunderstood. Sorry 'bout that...
