I see that DX ENGINEERING carries the pair of this series. The size and ostensible capability appear attractive. Reviews elsewhere are generally favorable (the usual mix).

I’m considering one as addition to a case of new radio gear as gift to my son. AM/SSB radio, RM ITALY KL-203 plus DSP speaker, and some necessaries to those. Mobile, or Base usage (call that latter field or stationary).

A Sirio 5000 mobile antenna plus something else for stationary use.

The amp draw is covered (maybe other transceiver in future), so — caveats about MFJ gear understood — any experience either these two models?

Any alternatives?

Size is of primary importance as gear needs (as of today)
to fit a Harbor Freight 4800-Case, ready-to-use.

Thanks.

Alinco makes a little switcher about the same size. It's 30 amps, as well. Has a quiet fan. It's the only switcher I've owned that never gave me fits. It has binding posts on the rear. I don't like the lugs on the front, bugs me. I generally have good luck with MFJ stuff. I don't buy their stuff because it's cheap. I buy mostly cause they make some handy stuff.
