MIDLAND RADIO ADJUSTMENTS

in case anyone else needed this info, these 3 adjustments are right beside the power transformer.
rv302 audio..i opened it up.no difference for me tho

rv301 ssb mic gain

rv303 ssb power.

so as of now i cant change my deadkey, the cb shop said he needed to do that:sad: i did mark some spots and try a few diff pots on the right side in the circut board area but couldnt find it so left everything as it was.

on am i have a 5 watt dead key and no swing..f-500 dk is 110watts and no swing.
ssb is 10 watt dk and 12 swing.. 130watt dk with amp ,swings to 210watts
does anything here sound like im driving the amp to hard..
the am 5 watt am dead key worries me but it has no swing on am.
no clue if this is too much for ssb tho i rarely use ssb "yet"
amp is the f-500,,goodnight fellas;)

I pulled the Sams for the 13-898B (#72), and there is no large wirewound rheostat that controls RF power. In fact, looking at the schematic and the alignment tables, there is NO rf power adjustment (per se) at all. Just tune the coils in the tx section for peak, and then detune L112 for 5 watts maximum (w/o modulation). SSB ALC - RV301, AM AMC - RV302

I checked the 13-898 in Sams # 62, and while it is very different circuit-wise, it also did not have the rheostat control that CK mentioned. I remember those large rheostats, but I believe they came later in the Midland 79-*** series.

Johnny9 - before you start tinkering with that old horse, get a copy of Sam # 72. Good luck & 73s.

- 399

I'll second that. :D

i was even looking for the L112 L113 L114 like the info said, for the heck of it and its def not in the top of my radio either.wasnt gonna do it just looking for the heck of it..
there a lot of small 1/4 inch square adjustment pot thingys on the right side up top but no numbers even come close to the numbers the cb tricks show.

i wouldnt think they would be in the bottom of the radio but going there now to check the vfo hook up i cant get working..
id love to adjust it while i have it all apart but not like it hard to get back into.
i will take bottom pics also.

L112, L113 and L114 are the 3 wire would pots in the back right hand corner of board (looking at top of unit)

L112, L113 and L114 are in back right hand corner of unit looking down on unit while it faces you. they are wire wrapped round pots.

Did you say "ssb is 10 watt dk and 12 swing"??? If you actually have 10 watts dead key on SSB, your carrier balance is way out of adjustment. In all cases you should have next to 0 watts dead key on SSB. Maybe you would be better off letting a tech make all those adjustments.

What is the VR number for the Midland 13-887 to set deadkey a bit higher...

Midland 13-887 final adjustment.
From Sam's CB-67, page 40:
Set to channel 13, key it up, and adjust L114 and L115.

If you don't have that book, I can scan the relevant page for you. Just might be a little while before I can get to it.

TM86 thank you, I do have that book... Dan
I don't see that model in the info list.
I will search around and see if there is any info on that radio.

L114 is a coil, do I spread it a little?
