does anyone know how many watts it takes to drive a spitfire 300 tube linear? it has 1 6lq6 driving 3 6lq6"s. any ideas would really help. thanks

It's probably a low drive type. No more than maybe 6 watts dead key in. It'll probably be happy with 4 watts.

From the dead key you can swing probably up to 50 watts P.E.P. into it so a medium power radio like a General Lee or any of the medium power Galaxy's or Magnum's or an RCI 2950 will work great.

On the off chance that it is a High Drive amp it won't hurt anything to try it like a Low Drive and put 4-6 watts dead key into it.

Good luck

Go easy on those tubes or prepare to shell out some big bones to re-tube the amp. Your better off just buying a solid state amp at that point and putting the ole' spitfire on the shelf to enjoy as a momento of the past.
