I'm Looking to buy another radio. I want something with a larger meter like the Galaxy 99 or similar. Also want the talkback and the echo as I have never owned something like that.
I have a Cobra 29LX which is alright but the receive is horrible compared to my 2970n2.

So my question is what radio is going to have better receive like the 2970n2 but the toys I want. Stryker and Connex make several models that fit the bill but will the receive be any better then the 29LX.

Not a big fan of Models with all the lights. Can you shut the extra lighting off on those models ( like the stryker 655/955 or the connex 3600hp ).

Thanks for any feedback in advance!

Do you have experience with the 29LX would one of these have better receive. Is there a brand that has better receive as a rule. The 29LX is horrible.

I don't. Does the radio need an alignment?

Not sure. I bought it last year used, but from a cb shop that said it was top notch. Take that for what its worth.
But I can set the squelch just over noise. and someone in the same parking lot will hold a conversation and I can only hear them not the others. If I put my old Uniden trucker pro in I can hear both.
I see all kinds of receive upgrades for the 29LX so I figured it just needs that.
As I said in the original post I think I want a radio with some toys.

    Thanks for the help

    galaxy 959 = no echeo
    galaxy 99v2
    stryker 447/ 497
there are a few other ones but these are the reasonable priced ones .all ones
i listed has everything ya want but the 959 . but a xtreame 2018 mic will fix that
all these SHOULD be as good as the ranger [maybe better] . i find the 2950 is
noisy compared to my other radios in my signature

I might get it aligned by a reputable tech.

I plan on having it gone through.

But would like a radio with toys.

Does anyone know if the others mentioned. Connex Stryker and so forth have better receive typically.

    Thanks

In my opinion my Galaxy 99v2 and the 959 have a better receive than my 2950dx, i.e. not as noisy. Can't speak to the Stryker, connex, etc.

Just my experience ... I had a Cobra 29 NW ST WX (or whatever order those letters are in) tuned by GI Joes and it was a good little radio. I liked the recieve on it better than on my Stryker 955 that I have now. The Stryker is more sensitive and recieves more signals but is really noisy at times. Dial the recieve on my stryker back just a little and you will still hear the small background static but someone could key up near you and youd never hear em. Dial it to the right and voices are so distorted its hard to get a copy. This is all AM. On SSB, it works great...when its working. Ive had it to two different techs and it comes out of the shop working then the problem is back. Think Ill start a new thread with details bout these issues.

My next radio will likely be a Galaxy 979. If I like after that I may look into a 99v for my other truck.

If it was mine I would send it to Dave at DTB Radio in Carlisle PA, he's really good with Cobra radios and if you explain what is going on you can bet when you get it back you'll think it's a new radio.

My stryker 440 and 447 have a little better recieve than the galaxy 55 hp I had, but the galaxy had alot better recieve than any 29 I've ever had. My buddy runs a magnum delta force in his big truck and an s9 in his pickup and really braggs on the receivers in those radios. Any of the above mentioned radios would be an upgrade imo.(y)

I agree, what antenna are you running? Has the SWR been set/checked? Are you getting vehicle noise or were you sitting in a bad spot that had electrical interference? You might not need a new radio, there are many things that can cause the problem you are having.
