i will be in the market for a new power mic in the coming weeks.

i had an old astitc road devil (black) that i really liked....... someone else liked it more than i did though :crying: then i replaced with a newer one (red) and well..... it is junk really

what good power hand held mic are available now that you all would recommend?

RF Ltd. 2018 Extreme with all the noise makers OFF. Really good tonal qualities, and if you absolutely HAVE to have the sound effects, it's just the flick of a switch away.

X2...

I have 3 of these Mics...One in each vehicle...

Noise Cancelling, Power Mic, Echo Mic, and Talk Back, all in One!

Good idea to stick a rubber O-ring behind the wheels on the back of the Mic...#8 O-rings in the pluming dept at your local hardware store work great.

The O-rings will help keep the adjustment wheels from moving too easy when grabbing the Mic while driving.

and agree...The Road Devil Mic's are junk.

With the radios you have listed, you shouldn't need a power mic. The red Road Devils that I have listened to sounded impressive.

for most people you may be right, i however have a very soft voice, more like a wisper, the most i have ever got out of a stock mic was 70% modulation, on averge it stays near 50-60%. hence the reason for a desent power mic.

Listen to Channel 6 and you can't help but notice how those boys scream and yell into the microphone. Speak up.

I am getting 50-60% Modulation with my stock mic. Some have recommended adjusting the radio's modulation pot. If I leave it where it is set, can a power mic provide 100% modulation, or will it, too, be limited to the same 50-60%?

I would adjust the pot, or have a pro tune up your radio. Probably won't even need a power mic once it's tuned right. If you stick a power mic on it, and the modulation pot is halfway open, you're just trying to shove more through it and it will probably just squeal.

I like the EC-2018 and the cr-577, get good results from both of these

How are you checking modulation?

Caught! LOL

Read somewhere that radios come from the factory with modulation set at less than 100% using stock mic. When I modulate, my power meter barely moves (Radio Shack SWR/Power meter). Guessed modulation to be something less than what it could be.

Rather than mess inside the radio with the modulation adjustment, I ordered a RF Limited CR577 and am awaiting its arrival. I wish I had a local to listen to me and report back but don't.

I just purchased the Radio Shack meter. Wish now I'd spent more and gotten a meter that also measures modulation.

A lot of folks in the forums have quit responding to me. Guess I'm driving them crazy with my questions and inexperience. Makes me kind of sad.
