Motor maul's

if you look on a motor maul and ive even seen video's where there are so239 connectors on the actual device, now I always thought that motor mauls were for charging batteries. Why do you need to connect your antenna/amplifier's rf connectors up to this device? Am i missing something here?

I'm not into that kind of thing but my guess is that they are RF keyed so that when you hit the mike button the maul switches over.

RF switching..
when keyed the relays in the Motor Maul put your 12 volt batteries in series making 24 volts. then it regulates down to the set voltage.
when you un-key the relays disconnect and allow your alternator to charge the batteries at 12-13 volts.
