Well..went from a stuffed basement of CB gear to turning the basement to storage, now it's the start of the budget ham shack.
When from bare walls and floor to freebie cabinets/counter tops, next was lighting, more outlets, and 12V wall plates to a remote power supply.
2M radio is a Motorola GM300
10M is RadioShack HTX-10
2M antenna(not shown) is a Slim Jim j-pole at about 60ft
10M antenna(shown) is a wire dipole, inside 1/2" pvc in a temp setup.

Excuse the mess, it's still WAY under construction/tweaking. I think all total, I maybe have $300 invested in everything you see

I guess it must be working, 3 days in a row, had contacts on 10M from 3500-5500 miles, longest was from here in Va to CA7CAQ in Chile

Cool deal! I always said CB stood for cheap bastard, but it sounds like it applies to ham as well. 300 bucks for a station is pretty awesome!

Very interested in ham and $300 is my budget as well. Gotta convince the "boss" that its a viable hobby

$300 requires a ton of luck getting used gear that works. My luck was never good with the used gear. Not sure if the shipping would cover all that gear. Impressive! 73

scouring freecycle and craigslist for anything related to the shack has worked well, equipment is all about being in the right place at right time. And some leftovers from the cb days...it's getting better, but not there yet, updated pics coming tomorrow hopefully

a few update pics of sorts

hard to keep the 4yr old off the dial, turns into a team effort(borrowing his grandpas Icom 701)

The pvc is about 4" longer than the full extended wire, some 10lb fishing line is tied to the end of the wire, pops out the end of the pvc and is folded over and taped in place, I left enough fishing line so if I needed to pull back thru the pvc easily I could.
