I am thinking about building a 3 or 4
element yagi for 20m and up,
but it has to be completely
invisible from a distance of 80 feet.

current thinking is, start with what I would
call an 'X' spreader, wire elements yagi.

not expected to survive ice
not expected to survive hi wind
does not need to be 2 dimensional.
A 10 ft support pole at the center, would be ok
if thin or preferably invisible.

my assumption is that a aluminum or steel rod,
one-tenth inch or less,
painted black, would not be detected against a
background of sky.

needed... what is essentially (4) 23 foot long
cantilever beams, weight on the end would be small.

any combination of support stringers hanging from the
central pole would be ok.

the cantilever does not need to be perfectly straight.

I am thinking that the close-in part of the cantilever,
will have to be 3 (or more) rods welded together
in the fashion of a 'triangle' tower section.
The outer 5 feet could probably be made
from a straightened piece of coathanger wire.
Also acceptable would be 'sailboat mast' type rigging.
Anything goes, as long as it is invisible.

the usable size will be 28 x 36 feet.

the usual internet searches did not yield any help.

thanks for any comments!

If you are asking if it could be done, then I would think yes. You have eliminated the need for it to be practical, only possible, so a lot of restrictions wouldn't apply. I have doubts about your choice of color of the thing. I would have to say that the color would be dependent on the colors of it's environment.
If you ever decide on a design, and build the thing, I was going to say I'd love to see a picture of it, but, that wouldn't be possible would it. You could only see the failures...

LZ.

there are lots of ways to be creative.
for example, the 'boom' dimension of 28 feet,
lets put it this way, a 3 element on 20
(has additional advantage that all the feed point stuff is near the tower)
with a 18 ft 'boom', would be much better
than what I have...... 36 foot, for the 20m reflector...
perhaps I could use 5 feet of very small tubing on the ends
which reduces the 'box' to 18 x 26

on top of that, nothing prevents there being
physical structure under the plane of the wires.
(as long as it is too thin to be visible.)
look at how bridges are made, there is often
structure both above and below the road deck.

is steel wire rope going to stretch over time?

after I put up my tower,
my city adopted tower rules.
I have some 'grandfather' rights.

but I don't want to alert them by asking about it.
If the antenna is invisible,
nobody will care.
