Good points,
At Least the newer 7610 has a video out so you can use an external monitor when the screen burns out.
I didn't notice a video out on this radio. My Icom 7000 has one and I use it in my mobile and works geat with a cheap 7 inch $40 LCD monitor. You almost need one because of the 2.5 inch screen on the 7000.
That may not be so. It depends upon where the feed comes from in the radio. You might be able to do it with lots of radios using other types of screens but when my ICOM 756 PROII screen failed the radio was a door stop. I don't like external monitors as my screen & why I have an all in one radio in my ICOM 7600. I do not want another screen nor do I need a bigger screen. I have great eye sight after having Lasik Surgery years ago & the screen on the 7600 is plenty big enough for me. I had the ICOM 7000 for several years & I tried the external screen in my mobile & removed it because it was unneeded for my wants & needs.I kept it around & sold it to the new owner when I sold it. Besides that the 700 has the clearest & easiest screen of any mobile radio to see & the color makes it even better & clearer than an external monitor due to the number of pixels in the display giving great resolution. It also took up space I could use for other things just like the big external monitors in a shack. NOT for me. Many people don't need them but they think they look Cool & that is more important than functionality these days it appears. If anyone really needs that big of a screen on a radio they should see an Eye Specialist ASAP on a serious note. It's a bunch of Hype.
