It's not. It's an on/off switch device. But a switch that is fast enough can amplify RF. The faster the better. I tend to use the data sheet for the IRF520 as a reference, rather than try to memorize how man nanocoulombs of gate charge to worry about.
If it can switch from on to off fast enough, it will also amplify RF. Ebay has had linears with the larger-size switchmode parts in it, and will claim only to reach 14 MHz as the upper frequency. The MOSFET in that one will likely not have half that much power gain at 27/28 MHz.
The MOSFET's efficiency falls of as frequency rises, so it throws more Watts of heat per RF Watt.
A casual comparison of the specs makes the IRFZ24N look like it should outperform the IRF520. It's faster.
But by how much? How much SWR do you need to crinkle it?
Nothing in the manufacturer's specs about those details.
