I got a CB from my brother-in-law, its a Galaxy DX959, I was wondering just how good of a radio it is. Also, I'm going to install it in my pickup, what in your opinion is a good location to install an antenna and what type of antenna would you recommend. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum . . .

Very nice radio; you will probably enjoy it!

Best place for the antenna is mounted on the top/center of the vehicle. The quick and easy choice would be the Wilson 1000 magnet mount for around $70 plus shipping. Lotta bang for the buck right there. The magnet mount will allow you the freedom to take it down or put it on the vehicle. All you need to do is have the SWR set on it - or have a friend help you out there:

I agree with Mr. Robb about the position of the antenna, but I'm a steel whip man myself. Ive had great luck out of a 102 inch whip with spring and 18 ft of coax mounted in the bed of the truck (preferably middle of bed against the cab). The pitfall of these is that they scrub thru the drivethru places causing quite some attention! But i dont mind that :) Anyways its all personal preference i suppose. But this antenna combo and a RCI 6300 f150 has worked wonders for me!

Welcome to the forum. I use a dx949 same as the 959 but without the frequency counter. A good little radio and I use it to drive a two pill amp. On sideband the radio may drift off frequency at some point for you, but no problem if it does you just have it realigned and you are good to go.

good luck with the hobby.

P.S. these can be purchased at a local cb shop usually for around $20 and i think the spring around 10. The whole set up can prob. be purchased for about 50-60 bucks.

You don't need no stinkin mag mount....you need this!

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
