Typically have a noise level of 1 S unit or less. Last few days that has jumped to 5. Figured the neighbors had a new toy and was really bummed out. Then, on a hunch, I took out my small KA1103 shortwave radio, dialed it to 27.255 (local CB channel) and walked around the house. Near the kitchen I suddenly began picking up up a buzz in the speaker. Followed it into the kitchen and directly to the culprit where the buzz became LOUD. The source? A Mr. Coffee coffeemaker we had recently set up. It wasn't on, but was plugged in. Unplugged it and BAM! Noise gone! Problem solved. Never would have suspected that was the source. Needless to say, we now leave it unplugged except to make coffee in the mornings. :D

Where a ferrite spliced-in could help.

Great story. Were you wearing the Howdy Doody beanie propellor cap . . even if metaphorically?

What sound effects accompanied this search?

    Unplugging in lieu of ferrite.
    Yep, cap on.
Mostly just talking aloud to myself.

So, even if your noise level isn’t real high, if you have a Mr. Coffee (or other brand coffee maker) you might want to unplug it and check anyway. Every little bit helps. (y)

My son is out ahead of me in owning an RF sniffer. Have used it a little at my home (an aluminum RV), and I can see that it’ll need to be used extensively once a base-style mobile radio installation is done (RVs have both 12V + 120V and plenty of “possibility”).

I use a BRAUN coffeemaker in the Peterbilt, but haven’t noticed interference at the times it’s working (need my special propellor beanie to start the search; see if little boy sound effects can’t vitiate a call & response rhythm from blipping sources).

A BIG ferrite toroid ring I found to be the key for the compressor of a portable refrigerator/freezer a few years back. Had to suspend operations when it kicked on. Afterwards was barely noticeable.

“Coffee or Radio, Mister. You got one choice”.

And work up a speech for the wife.

Something about entering the Kingdom in practicing child-like wonder .. . the little boy sound effects, that’s just some glossolalia.

One could pattern this speech on Tex Ritters, “Deck of Cards”, not allowing interruptions till the finish. (Schumann Resonance, Brownian motion, lilies of the field, sparrows, etc)

This doesn’t work we’ll have to fall back on being Gods Holy Fool. (A lot more work).

Side note: my grandfather worked on the Howdy Doody show.. He was backstage, but fondly remembered what could be done with artist rendered backdrops on camera! We even have a picture of my Mother wearing a HD hat as a small child. Thanks for the kick in the pants! lol
