I recently got a hold of one and im in Love!!

It's starts off a my Aunts 80th Birthday I was outside the reception hall having a cigarette with one of my cousin's, when she ask's whats with the antenna on my car. I told her it was a CB Antenna and it is a hobby that im intrested in.

She soon tells me that my Aunt has a CB base station in the storage garage that has been sitting in a box for roughly 20 years and that they were going to toss it in the trash. So needless to say my heart skiped a beat when she said it was a Cobra 2000 GTL :p: (y)

So I picked it up monday Afternoon hooked it all up and everything works perfect and appears to be stock, and my does it sound really nice.

I really do enjoy the recieve on this rig though, it has great noise rejection to Boot!

I'm still cleaning it up as we speak it's quite dusty seeing as it has not been used in so long, and if anyone knows an online pdf file for the general service I'd like to start checking it out, AND NO I Wont be moddifying it at all, I've got my high power toy in the car lol.

ok now for the pictures here is the link to the album:

Nice find, but 3-400 is a bit optimistic... if you watch you can get one in the 150-200 range, not saying haven't seen them go for that, just saying you can still get one reasonable if you watch a bit...

A GUY ON EBAY RIGHT NOW HAS ONE NEW IN BOX FOR 800!!!! BUY IT NOW. HE HAS A FEW OF THEM. THEY DO NOT SELL!!! RETARD.

gotta love the ol' 2k GTL. i'd never get rid of mine either. got way too much money invested in it.

I got lucky and im greatful for it, it has a new home now and will be used not abused hehe.

If i come across a decent self powered amp i may have my tech set one of the alarm clock funtion button's for a lowered deadkey, so basically a 1 watt deadkey for amp use and stock when talking around my area. as well as try to widen the audio chain just a little more, so when im done saving up for that EQplus by W2IHY it will sound even better :D

Think i might go see some more relatives, one may have a turner + 3 stashed somewhere LOL

Very nice find !! We can start calling you Luckypuppy !!

The radio gods were smiling on you that day

Those are still one of the best pure CBs out there

Sentimental value first most and the price was right no doubt! You can't go wrong man. I wouldn't modify that thing for anything nor anyone! I'd grab up an ol Grant XL before I'd butcher that ol 2000GTL. I've been there done that, and have kicked myself ever since! I've got 3 2000GTL's and they've all been "modded" one way shape or form. The last one I got was just so pretty and "virgin" that I couldn't help myself. Bam,it's got Xtra channels now! What a fool I was. Now I've got my amateur license and don't even use Cb's anymore. It's boxed up w/a many more Cb's and stuff. Oh well, too late now!!
Sorry for the rant man. It's a beauty, and I wouldn't touch it except for simple operation dude! Just my "humble" opinion. A great radio no doubt!!!
ENJOY SIR.

Be very careful using a tech and doing mods on this radio.

It has quite a bit of potential, just be sure you have a good tech, there are just WAY to many hack mods out there as well.

finding a GOOD tech nowadays isn't easy. i have sent my radios to 4 different "respected" techs and i wasn't happy with the results.

I am lucky in that tech department te only place i know of in my area that work on radio's is a place that retails and services ham rigs and emergency crew's (Police,Fire fighters and ambulance teams).

The specialise in Kenwood and icom radios this is their site, PROCOM S.V. EST DISTRIBUTEUR DES PRODUITS KENWOOD, ICOM, XPAGER .

It is somewhat of a basic site which is fine by me but their shop is nice and they will go out of their way to do something you want so long as you provide a detailed parts list with the procedures you want.

The only down side is that the have so much traffic that sometimes it gets long waiting for your radio lol.
