Any ideas where to look why a cobra2k gtl would be off by 1 example tuned up so that ch 20 reads xx.xx50 it will read 20 to 40 xx.xx50 and ch 1 to 19 will read xx.xx49. With one middle channel jumping back and forth 49 to 50. Thanks

That means it is only 100 Hz off frequency worst case assuming the counter is dead on. Sounds pretty much like normal component aging and tolerance to me. It's not a big concern considering the small amount it is off and that a perfectly aligned radio will still show a very slight variation from one end of the band to the other.

On a 2000 on channel 1 i get 27.2049 when you get to the change over channel say 21 it will read 27.4049 to .4050 then to channel 40 it will read XX50 the rest of the way. With that said here is the rest.

So far this is what i found i have 2 rigs one is right on 1 to 40 the other is off by going from 1 to 40 test results i gleamed from both are as follows if you got any clues let me know.

On tp 1 on the good rig when i go through the band 1 to 40 the last 3 digits of the count stay close to the same:
GOOD RIG
CH1 34.76383 to .76384
CH40 35.20384 to .20385
Total diff of 2 = 383 to 385

Here they skew off by a good bit
BAD RIG that changes by 1
CH1 34.76507 to .76508
CH40 35.20520 to .20521
Total diff of 14 = 507 to 521

There is my trouble spot something when i change channels is really skewing the TP1 freq. The numbers I know are not right on for the alignment but they will suffice for this trouble shooting test.

OK first off, any alignment or even testing of TP1 is done AFTER the radio has been left on for 20 min or more. The room temp should be comfortable to you as well. This allows all internal components to fully stabilize.

The fact that you see these numbers off is just further proof that it needs to be aligned with a quality freq counter on CH 19. The entire PLL, VCO, loop oscillator, and output oscillators will need to be aligned. Then, the built-in counter is also aligned as well.

That is how it is done on a Cobra 2K; and that is what it will require . . .

Are those actual numbers?? Channel 20 should be 27.205 not channel 1 Channel 21 should be 27.215 not 27.405. Just trying to follow what you mean.

yes actual numbers but the voice lock was turned and for the purpose of this it does not matter what freq it is on just that the channel selector changes the freq of the tp by to much verses a known good radio 14 verses 2 that is enough to shift the channel off by one it shouldn't be doing that and it was aligned the tp freq should stay constant if the radio is is 3050 or 4060 but would be off by the same amount end to end if you get what i mean

Let me clear this up
on ch1 it will read 26.9649
ch 20 it will read 27.2049 to 50 hopping back and forth
from 21 up it will read .xx50 like ch 36 27.3650 ch 40 27.4050.
If you set ch 1 to 26.965 then it drives ch 20 and up 1 higher like ch40 27.4051

p.s. it was on for an hour before measurements. Both radios good and bad also i do not know what prior owner did to it seeing i found some strange things like the yellow wire from the voice lock was not connected it was in the wire bundle from board to no where.
