OK, Why would a cheap magnet mount/antenna work...

#1 --- the mag mount usually cost more, than the typical roof mount.

Question: What are the values you are reading on both setups? This will better help determind what the problem is. If the SWR is super high on the roof mount, I would have to guestimate, improper install.

Its hard to mess up on a magmount install.

but the expensive through the roof mount and antenna give me all that swr?



Do I need to ground the mount or antenna (it's through the sheetmetal roof)? Why would the mag antenna give me such good numbers and the expensive set up works for crap?
