Old cell phone frequencies

Back when they used analog cell phones in the 800 MHz band, some scanners used to be able to pick up these conversations. And then having such scanners was illegal unless that portion of the band was blocked.

But what good would it do anymore these days to have that band blocked, or to have a law against having it unblocked, if those frequencies are no longer used for cell phones?

Those frequencies are still used for cellular phones and PCS (personal communications services ). It is just one of at least three bands used. I have a tri band world phone which means it operates on all three bands depending what is used and where. Everything now however is digital and not analog.
