Ok, I think you said you only have a dmm and a dosy meter? If so, and a scope isn't available, this complicates the procedure, but I will try.The other cobra is a hand held. I got more mics hanging around.
Currently I have a dead key but, 0 swing and 0 modulation.
Probably a good idea doing this after some sleep. I’ll probably make a little more sense if I’m not as tired.

I’ll turn the knobs and they are in fact dusty.
Using a dmm on the 10k resistance scale, probe pins 1 and 2 of the mic jack. Turn the mic gain knob back and forth, see if that reading goes from low to high, maybe 1 ohm to 5k ohms. If so, the mic audio is making it to the mic gain knob. If you get no resistance reading, you have found an issue. Maybe a wire came loose or the mic gain opened up. If you get a low resistance that doesn't go up, probably have a shorted cap or a short to ground right past the mic jack.
