Power Mic

How many of you run some sort of power mic? Have you compared on air checks with a stock mic?

I am looking for a amplified mic that does not give me a "TINNY" sound.

Any ideas?

Definite difference between stock mic on HR2510 and the D104M6B that I use with it in the mobile. More punch in the modulation and better tone. On base the stock mike on my TS430S is no comparison to the modified D104 w/ HC-5 element.

hope this helps!

I run D-104 in my mobile and i would not change it for anything.Tried other mikes but i don't think you can beat the quality of sound you get from a D-104.

I also like the Astatic 575-M6. You can adjust the tone and volume. Fits good in the hand, very durable (mine has hit the pavement more than few times when I get out of the car and forget the mic is in my lap). Sounds good too!!

If you are trying to get away from the "Tinny" sound, I do not recommend a "ceramic" type mike, rather I would look for a dynamic mike with a Amp.

Might try to find a Cobra Dyna-mike-plus(Model CA50)They work well, with a good range of sound, only bad thing about them is they use that kinda weird 7 volt battery.

or a hc5 in whatever

or a kenwood mc-50 sounds good toooooooooo(not amplified though...)

For mobile or base?

Turner+3 is the best sounding amplified base mic I've used.

Astatic Road Devil noise cancelling power mics sound good also. Alot of it just depends on the sound of your voice...

PS, I hate that "tinny" sound.

Hey all, I've played around with different mics on different rigs and getting mixed results.....It depends on your voice, and some radio's like certain mics.......Right now I'm limited on radio equiptment, but I do like Turner +3's, Sidekicks and the CS-1's.......If you got a bassy voice these mics to me seem to give you a little more bottom end, set right and they do perform......I've also played around with your different D-104's (lollipop) mics........People say I'm crazy, but I do run a 20 year old Silver Eagle wired into my 8pin on my Kenwood TS-930s.......I like to run my D-104's all the way turn down and barely cracked open on bottom of stand, I hate background noise, kids running around, dogs barking, phone ringing. Wife yelling at you for tearing up the TV.....LOL..I run my Kenwood only at about 1 on the mic gain......I've wanted to buy a couple of different HF mics, but I'm on a beercan budget these days.....Can't afford say a Gold line or even a MC-60. for now I'll just run the lollipop.....I've had a couple of newer style D-104's like the Night Eagle and for some reason, I lost some of the bottom end and made it tinnier on audio......I was bored one day and took a mic element off a Turner +3 and put it in a lollipop head....mic element is alot smaller than stock one, but I got it in secure and I was impressed in it's performance....I've never tried the Red Devil on a mobile.....I've had a few older Minute man II's....It's a miniture lollipop with tons of audio, Most of my SSB rigs are modded, some with limiters some without....On my 2950 that I'm running right now, I do have the stock mic...I've ran some powermics on it in the past, the stock mic seems to have good hi's mid's and lows, so we'll stick with it for now. I've never played around with Shure mics, but I've heard some good one's, Any favorites on the Shure line??...I heard a Kenwood TS-430s with a Shure-444 and it sounded great......Just my 2cts.........73's all
