If you go to chipswitch.com and talk to as many users of the Chipswitch as you can find, You will see that the Chipswitch

improves much of the operation of the radio, especially while using in the mobile. You can customize the channel/freq operation and program 3 banks of 10 memory channels that are fully scanable and

searchable. It also allows for the modification of the way the frontpanel and Mic buttons operate, allowing the movement of the SPAN control and the freq in different levels (10khz, 100khz, etc.)

It makes the radio much better than the way it comes stock.

Worth every penny!

Ozarkjeep, the HR2600 is a great radio. Alot of nice features with the chipswitch. If you decide to get one, and you decide you want to have a few upgrades done to the radio. Consider Doc at Doc's electronics in Buffalo, NY. He is one of the best.

He can make these radios awsome. I get nothing but flowers with my 2600 on am and ssb. You might consider a Turner+3 desk mic also, they give that radio a really nice clean loud aaaaaaaaaaaaaaudio.

Just my opinion, Hossless

IM looking at one of these, with a chipswitch installed ( I have no idea what that is?)

what is a chipswitch?

is this radio durable enough for use as a mobile in an offroad truck?

or is it better suited to base usage?

I assume its a good quality radio with am/fm/lsb/usb and a zillion channels right?

whats teh going rate for one with a chipswitch installed?

is there anything to look for as in year models that arent able to convert to more channels or stuff like that?

thanks!
