The trip went well. The CB got me out of a 7mi backup Indiana, and kept me informed all along the trip. Prior to leaving, I couldn't get anything peak/tweak -wise in the thread or PM, so I set it to 3w swinging about 7. I notice that a hard whistle will get me 15 on AM almost regardless of dead-key. SSB yields 20watts. But that's all I can get. I retuned for max power via the Alignment procedure, and I opened the AMC and ALC to max.
I was not the original owner of my original Grant export, so I'm not sure what was done to it, but audio reports were always outstanding on AM/SSB/FM and was twice as powerful as this ole girl. Hopefully I can find details to get this rig to that level
