    Anyone on here with a Lincoln 2 v3 or + model have any suggestions for a microphone (currently available models, not CR577, etc.) Can be a hand mic not a desk mic.. Though this rig is home use only for me..

    These radios has been out for almost 3 years, surely someone must have switched to an aftermarket microphone..

    I have a Astatic 636l sitting here, but before I change the 4 pin to 6 pin I figured I'd ask also about this mic as well. (Yes I have the wiring diagram)..

    Astatic 636l worked just fine on mine when I used it as a mobile. Clear audio and good noise canceling.

    Nothing wrong with a handheld mic for a base but desk mics are more preferable and there are many options from good used ones to new and even pro audio mics.

    If you are using as a base then Astatic 1104C or Turner Super Sidekick.

    You'll like the experience of using a desk mic over a handheld.

    W9cll made some good suggestions.

    For the 6 pin conversion for the 636l I have

    1-wht
    2-blk
    3-red
    4-nothing
    5-blue/shield
    6-nothing and wrap as its 12v or remove pin.

    Does this sound right??

    Lincoln 2 pin outs:

    [IMG]

    The Stock Color Code for the Astatic 636L Mic is:

    WHITE = AUDIO
    SHIELD = GROUND
    RED = TRANSMIT
    BLACK = RECEIVE
    BLUE = COMMON
    YELLOW = AUDIO Sw (Not used a lot of times)

    Looks correct to me, does it to you?

    Figured I would confirm since you have one wired up.. Only confusion was on pin 3 as it does channel up circuit on the L2..

    I've tried no less than 6 different mics including a D104M6B, RD104E, SR-198 636L, as well as numerous other microphones and found the original stock Mic to have the highest output according to a modulation meter and scope.

    Like so many of these newer radios, most have switched to Electret condenser mics. I believe the Lincoln 2 is no exception. That means you’re dealing with an audio amplifier circuit that’s designed for the 1000 ohm impedance of that mic, instead of the typical 500 ohm impedance of the old school dynamic element. That mismatch is the reason for the lower output. You can compensate for that mismatch by using a power mic, but that’s not my personal choice. I prefer to stay with original mic or possibly modify it with a better Electret cartridge. Other modified options may include a computer desktop mic or various headsets that also use these cartridges without the need for extra amplification.. Don’t forget high end studio mics also adapt quite nicely if you’re into that sort of thing.
